You can insert pictures, notes, fields, symbols, footnotes, sound files, objects, bookmarks, etc. into OpenOffice.org 3.0 documents.

Insert graphic objects

OpenOffice.org 3.0 documents can contain drawings and photographs of various formats. There are several ways to place graphic objects in a document:

• insert from a file,

• insertion from the gallery by drag and drop,

• insert a scanned image,

• Paste from OpenOffice.org Draw or Impress applications.

How to insert a graphic object from a file

1. In the open document window, position the cursor at the location of the graphic object.

-By default, the graphic will be centered above the paragraph where the text input cursor is.

2. Open the Insert menu and in the list of commands move the cursor to the Image item.

3. In the pop-up menu, select From file.

4. In the Insert Image window, locate the image file on the required hard disk and click the Open button.

-If necessary, open the file type column list and select certain file types to insert. If you activate the Communication item, then upon subsequent updating and loading of the document, the bitmap will be reloaded (taking into account its editing). If you activate the Preview item, then in the right part of the window you can view the selected image file.

5. The page displays the selected graphic. An anchor symbol will appear in the place of its binding (the paragraph where the text input cursor was located at the time the object was inserted).

- Deleting the anchor paragraph will delete the graphic.

How to insert a graphic from the gallery

1. In the open document window, click the Gallery button in the Standard panel.

-To close the gallery window, click the Gallery icon in the Standard panel again.

2. In the left part of the gallery window, select the desired folder in the list.

3. The contents of the selected folder will be displayed in the right part of the window.

4. Hover over the desired graphic object and, while holding the left mouse button, drag the object onto the document page.

-If you hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys while dragging, then instead of a copy of the object, a hyperlink to it appears on the page. How to insert a graphic from the gallery as a background

1. In the open document window, click the Gallery button in the Standard panel.

2. In the left part of the gallery window, select the desired theme folder from the list.

3. In the right part of the window, right-click on the desired graphic object.
